Can acupuncture help with IVF Protocols?
At our office, we generally work with women from the beginning of their IVF protocol. We suggest weekly treatments to start during the suppression phase, through the stimulation phase, and until the time of transfer. We are available to accompany women to their transfer site for acupuncture immediately before and after embryo transfer.
Can Well Women treat men to increase fertility?
If a man has been diagnosed with a low sperm count or motility problems, acupuncture and herbs may be highly beneficial, particularly prior to any lab-assisted fertility procedures. At The Lotus Center, we often treat our patients’ partners, and have found this to contribute to successful pregnancy.
Acupuncture can be utilized as a primary therapy alone or as a complementary therapy in a comprehensive fatigue management health care plan to alleviate fatigue and enhance overall health. Malfunctions in the endocrine, cardiovascular and digestive body systems that contribute to fatigue can also be treated with acupuncture.
While correcting the body imbalances causing fatigue, acupuncture also increases serotonin levels, a natural chemical that aids sleep. Acupuncture improves mood, strengthens the immune system and treats acute and chronic pain conditions that may contribute to fatigue.
Menopausal syndrome refers to the symptoms experienced by women during menopause, the transition period in a woman’s life when her ovaries stop producing eggs, her body produces less estrogen and progesterone, and menstruation becomes less frequent, eventually stopping altogether.
Common treatment of this syndrome includes the use of synthetic hormones to attempt to bring the body back to balance to reduce symptoms. This therapy is recommended by the Mayo Clinic for a short duration opposed to long term use due to side effects such as increased risk of heart disease, breast cancer, stoke, dementia, and blood clots.
At the Lotus Center of Oriental Medicine, we offer non-drug solution to menopausal syndrome. Our treatment and therapy has shown proven results in the treatment of hot flashes, night sweats, disturbed sleep as well as emotional disorders. The therapy helps adjust hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal cortex axis, harmonize internal organs and rebuild homeostasis of balance. The treatment, therefore, eventually helps bring back the normal balance of female sex hormones, i.e., an increase of estrogen level with a lowering of the high FSH (follicular stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone). The treatment includes, but not limited to, Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture and Nutrition and diet.
Many clinical studies have shown that acupuncture is significantly effective in treating postpartum depression. Many of our patients who successfully conceived after acupuncture treatment for infertility remained with us through their pregnancy to receive acupuncture to prevent miscarriage and to improve nutrition. Some of these patients developed postpartum blues and/or postpartum depression. Our treatments have helped nearly all of these patients quickly and successfully overcome their depression.
Our treatment for postpartum depression borrows many of the principals and techniques that we use to treat other types of depression. However, because the mother is often depleted of nutrients and energy after birth, we also focus on increasing nutrition uptake, increasing energy, and strengthening the immune system. We have found that this approach to be extremely successful in helping new mothers regain the energy they need to take care of their newborns.
